«Winemaking requires the spirit of an artist»
From autumn 2009, Damien Carruzzo will make the wines for Caves des Riondaz, a subsidiary of Provins, under his own signature. With a diploma from the «Ecole supérieure d’œnologie» (specialist school of winemaking) in Changins under his belt, this young man (aged 30) has been contributing to the creation of Provins’ specialities since 2003.
Endowed with a temperament that is both lively and thoughtful, Damien Carruzzo admits to working according to his emotions rather than defined rules, which he considers a brake on imagination. Convinced that winemaking requires the spirit of an artist, he defends the idea that while the quality of a wine is important, it is the moment and the person with whom you drink the wine that make the difference. «What seduces me about wine is the really strong emotional involvement that it arouses.»
Aimed at a younger clientele, the new range from Caves de Riondaz will comprise «wines for pleasure», well-rounded in terms of fruit, freshness and elegance. They will be easy-drinking wines to enjoy with friends, rather than more complex wines that can sometimes be difficult to appreciate.
