THE VINTAGE

The 2016 viticultural year started with a normal bud break, followed by flowering in optimal conditions. The high humidity between June and mid-July was a big concern for wine producers. The fairly dry and hot weather that followed created great conditions for the onset of ripening. The intermittent periods of rain during August meant the wine producers had to watch their vines closely.

Thanks to their meticulous work and the clement autumn weather, the grapes reached perfect maturity and were picked in the best possible conditions. The year was defined by its cool temperatures and humidity, with a generous harvest.

 

SOILS

Silty mixed soil (granite and limestone) in the Riddes region and flysch in the Saint-Léonard region for the heida grape. Shale and mica in the Sion area and schist and limestone in the Saint-Léonard region, as well as limestone in Sion for the arvine grape.

 

GRAPES

Petite arvine and heida (savagnin blanc).

 

VITICULTURE

Around 4 hectares: 3 hectares of petite arvine and 1 hectare of heida.

Terraced vineyards, small plots.

Traditional viticulture with integrated production.

 

HARVEST

The ECLAT grape harvest started on September 21st and ended on September 30th. Eight different parcels are harvesting by hand, at optimal maturity.

 

VINIFICATION

The grapes are vinified separately in French oak barrels, 80% new and 20% previously used.

 

MATURATION

The wine is aged during 9 months and stirred to agitate the lees each day for three months. Finally, the blending of different parcels is made barrel by barrel.

 

BLEND

95% petite arvine and 5% heida.
